10 Jobs with the Widest Gender Pay Gap, and Why it is Getting Worse
February 14, 2013 2 Comments

For those of you who were optimistic about the gender pay gap getting smaller, a new study from the Labor Department shows that it is actually doing the opposite. They revealed that in 2012, women only made 81 percent of what male workers made, on average. It went down 1 percent for 2011 (where women made 82 percent) and is now expected to widen even more and go to the 2005 rate.
Just recently President Obama made a push to end the gender pay gap by supporting a bill that would work to ensure paycheck fairness. Of course ensuring fairness is still going to be hard. Many people do not know if their co-workers who do the same job as them make more money or not, and it is not normally something one goes around asking. Hopefully this act can help close the pay gap and get it going in the right direction. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the top 10 jobs with the widest gender pay gaps are (from best to worst):
10) Securities, Commodies, and Financial Services Sales Agents at 69.1 percent
9) Marketing and Sales Agents at 67.7 percent
8) General and Operational Managers at 67.6 percent
7) Physicians and Surgeons at 67.6 percent
6) Educational Administrators at 67.2 percent
5) Personal Finance Advisers at 66.3 percent
4) Real Estate Agents and Sales Brokers at 66 percent
3) Sales and Related Workers at 65.6 percent
2) Retail Salespersons at 64.3 percent
1) Insurance Sales Agents at 62.5 percent
