Mattel Wants Your Toy Ideas!

Do you have a great idea for a toy? If so, Mattel wants to hear from you!

The famous toy company, behind classic toys like Barbie, Hot Wheels, and American Girl, hopes to find another great idea from the general public that will become the “Next Big Thing.”

To that end, Mattel is teaming up with crowdsourcing platform Quirky. Quirky allows users to submit ideas for inventions (in this case, toys). Quirky’s services will be very welcome to Mattel, who is currently suffering from lackluster sales figures. Luckily, Quirky’s success has landed products on many shelves across the country at prestigious retailers, including Costco, Home Depot, Amazon, and Bed, Bath, & Beyond.

Feeling doubtful that you could come up with an idea that would be good enough for Mattel? Think again! “Regular people” outside of the toy industry can absolutely come up with great ideas. In fact, check out this article, which describes 10 great inventions that came from the minds of children. This is especially relevant because anyone can submit ideas to Mattel through Quirky—even children.

“Toys are one of our most popular categories, said Quirky founder Ben Kaufman, adding that the platform has received 15,000 toy-related ideas from its community since it launched in 2009.

What do you think about Mattel’s calling for toy ideas? Do you think that you could come up with a toy idea that would be accepted by Mattel?
